Building a High-Performance IT Infrastructure for Mandapam

Niveshan undertook a pivotal project to design and implement a state-of-the-art IT infrastructure for Mandapam, a premier arena designated to host large-scale government programs and international events, including critical gatherings like the G20 Summit. The objective was to transform Mandapam into a technologically advanced venue, ensuring seamless, secure, and high-performance connectivity and communication capabilities essential for events of national and international significance. This project aimed to provide a reliable digital backbone that could support thousands of concurrent users, diverse applications, and stringent security requirements.

A Foundation for Global Collaboration

The successful execution of large government programs and international events at Mandapam necessitated a robust and highly available IT infrastructure. The key requirements included:

High-Density Connectivity: The ability to support a very large number of concurrent users (delegates, media, staff) with reliable, high-speed wired and wireless internet access across the entire venue.
Secure Network Environment: Paramount importance was placed on establishing a highly secure network to protect sensitive communications, prevent data breaches, and safeguard against cyber threats during high-profile events.
Seamless Communication: A modern and efficient communication system was required to facilitate internal coordination among event organizers and external communication for delegates.
Centralized Management: The need for a unified system to monitor, manage, and troubleshoot all network components efficiently, ensuring proactive identification and resolution of issues.

Scalability and Flexibility: The infrastructure needed to be scalable to accommodate varying event sizes and flexible enough to adapt to different technological demands of future programs.
Redundancy and High Availability: Critical systems required built-in redundancy to ensure uninterrupted services, even in the event of component failures.
Guest and VIP Services: Dedicated and secure network access for VIPs and guests, ensuring a premium connectivity experience.

Solution from Niveshan: A Converged Network for Elite Events

Niveshan designed and implemented a comprehensive, converged IT infrastructure solution for Mandapam, integrating cutting-edge networking, communication, and security technologies. Our approach focused on creating a resilient, high-performance, and easily manageable environment.

Core Network Infrastructure

Switches: Deployed a hierarchical network of high-capacity, enterprise-grade switches across the venue, including core, distribution, and access layers. These switches provided high-density Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, supporting thousands of wired connections for workstations, IP phones, and other devices. VLAN segmentation was extensively used to isolate traffic and enhance security.
Routers: Implemented robust, high-performance routers at the network edge and within the core to handle high volumes of internet traffic, facilitate secure routing between different network segments, and establish secure connections to external services. Redundant routing protocols ensured continuous network operation.

Wireless Connectivity

Wireless Controller: Deployed a centralized wireless controller solution to manage hundreds of Access Points, providing unified configuration, monitoring, and security policy enforcement. This ensured seamless roaming and consistent wireless performance across the entire arena.
Access Points (APs): Strategically placed a high density of Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) Access Points throughout Mandapam, including event halls, meeting rooms, common areas, and outdoor spaces. These APs were chosen for their ability to support a large number of concurrent users with high bandwidth, low latency, and robust security features (WPA3).

Communication Systems

IP Phone / IP PABX System: Implemented a modern IP Private Automatic Branch Exchange (IP PABX) system, integrated with IP Phones across the venue. This system provided advanced telephony features, unified communications capabilities (voice, video, messaging), and seamless internal and external calling, critical for event coordination and emergency services.

Network Management and Security

Firewall: Deployed a next-generation firewall at the network perimeter, providing deep packet inspection, intrusion prevention, and advanced threat protection. The firewall was configured with granular access control policies to secure traffic flows and protect against external threats.
Network Management System (NMS): Implemented a comprehensive NMS that provided real-time visibility, monitoring, and control over all network devices (switches, routers, APs, IP phones). The NMS enabled proactive performance monitoring, fault detection, configuration management, and detailed reporting, allowing the IT team to efficiently manage the complex infrastructure.
